TSA Luggage Locks - Search Alert
Recent Transportation Security Administration (TSA) policies once again allow passengers to secure their luggage with approved locks
Thanks to SearchAlert Combination Locks and new technology, travelers can once again feel secure. SearchAlert Combination Locks are TSA recognized and accepted, giving travelers the ability to lock their checked luggage without worrying that their locks will be cut off.
The unique design allows TSA agents to use an override device to open luggage that needs to be hand searched without destroying the lock.
Additionally, the traveler will be able to tell if the bag was opened thanks to the SearchAlert Security Window which changes color when any override device is used.

How Search Alert Luggage Locks Work
SearchAlert is a re-settable mechanical combination lock that may be opened with an override device used by TSA agents. After checked luggage is electronically screened, some luggage needs to be hand searched. In those cases, the TSA agent would use the override device, search the luggage, and place a TSA Notice of Inspection in the bag. If no notice is found, a counterfeit override device may have been used and the traveler should take the luggage to TSA security immediately to determine if anything is missing.
Travelers will know if the SearchAlert Combination Lock was opened during security screening just by looking at the Security Window on the lock. If the window is green, the lock was not opened. If the window is red, the lock was opened and the traveler should look for a TSA Notice of Inspection inside the luggage. After the SearchAlert Combination Lock has been opened with an override device and the Security Window has changed from green to red, the lock can be reset by opening the lock with the combination, pulling the shackle up, rotating it 180 degrees and pushing the shackle down.
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Recognized and Approved
SearchAlert Combination Locks are on a very short list of locks that are recognized and approved by the TSA. SearchAlert Combination Locks have a special identification mark that alerts the TSA agent that they can open the lock without destroying it. The lock also has a special code which alerts the TSA agent as to which tool to use to open the lock. If the lock doesn't have the Red Diamond, it is likely not TSA approved and will be cut off during the security screening process.
SearchAlert combination locks are TSA approved and able to be opened for security screening without doing damage to the lock. They also let you know when your bag was inspected at the airport. These strong, durable locks are made of a zinc die cast body and steel shackle and come in a variety of colors including Black, Black, Pewter, Orange, Bright Nickel, Brass- Plated, Sunshine Yellow, Hot Pink, Cobalt Blue, Fire Engine Red, Camo, Purple and Green.

Two unique innovations in luggage security:
1. SearchAlert can be opened by a TSA agent using an override device. Thanks to this new technology, no damage to the lock occurs.
2. The unique Security Window changes color when any override device is used.
The Security Window changes from Green to Red under the following conditions:
Checked luggage at an airport is sent through a screening process. When a TSA agent decides that further screening is necessary, the luggage needs to be hand searched. SearchAlert Locks can be opened without cutting or damaging the lock. When the override is used, the patented Security Window will change colors to alert the owner that the lock was opened
TSA policy requires that a TSA agent place a Notice of Inspection in each piece of luggage that was hand searched. If the SearchAlert Security Window shows red, and no official notice is inside the bag, the owner should take the luggage to a TSA agent immediately to determine if a counterfeit override device was used to remove or add anything to the luggage.
How to set your combination lock:
1. Set the dials to 0-0-0 and pull out the shackle.
2. Turn the shackle halfway around (180 degrees) and push in.
3. Hold shackle down and turn 90 degrees (1/4 turn) in either direction.
4. Set the dials to your own combination and memorize.
5. Without moving the dials, return the shackle to the 180 degrees position. Pull out shackle and turn it 180 degrees.
6. Push shackle in - it should not lock. Push shackle in and turn one or more dials - the shackle should lock.
7. To test, turn dials to the new combination, pull shackle open.
Combination can only be changed when the lock is in the open position. Follow steps 2 through 6.
How to reset your Security Window back to Green:
1. Set the dials to the correct combination and pull up the shackle.
2. Turn the shackle 180 degrees, and push shackle in. The Security Window should change color from Red to Green.
3. Pull up the shackle and the lock is ready for full use.
